Navarre and Navarre Beach
Tucked
away in the corner of Northwest Florida
is the small beach community of Navarre Beach.
Nestled between Gulf
Islands National Seashore and Navarre
Beach State Park, this beach community offers solitude
and simplicity for nature lovers.
Navarre boasts miles of beautiful shoreline
rated among the best in the nation, year after year. The
sand is so clean and powdery white, it squeaks under your
toes and the emerald green waters of the Gulf of Mexico
are perfect for swimming, snorkeling or boating. The northern
Gulf Coast region of Florida is known for
it’s saltwater fishing and anglers will find flounder,
pompano, cobia, mackerel and many other species of fish.
The Navarre
Nature Walk Park, located near the Navarre Bridge, is
a one mile waterfront boardwalk that includes a children’s
playground, a spring fed fish pond, a butterfly house, as
well as picnic area. The Nature Walk Park hosts a number
of fun festivals and activities during the year. Hundreds
of brightly colored plants, flowers and butterflies occupy
the Panhandle
Butterfly House garden and it is a rare and beautiful
establishment that is unique to the Navarre area.
For
a change of pace, try an excursion north of the beach to
some of Florida best kept secrets. Known as Canoe
Capital of Florida, Santa Rosa County has the largest
concentration of excellent canoeing rivers in the state,
including Blackwater
River State Forest, Sweetwater/Juniper
and Coldwater.
Visitors can hike, canoe, swim, go tubing, and horseback
riding in the State Forest.
Santa Rosa County has some of the counties
most prestigious championship golf courses, including the
Moors
Golf Club, home of the Emerald Coast Classic, a senior
PGA tournament. The
Club at Hidden Creek recently received a 4.5 star rating
from Golf Digest in its “Best Places to Play”,
making the course one of only five Northwest Florida courses
to receive the top rating. Some of the many other challenging
and scenic fairways and greens include Tiger
Point East and West and Tanglewood
Golf and Country Club.
The
Northwest Florida Zoo welcomes more than 150,000 visitors
per year and includes a fifty acre preserve with more than
700 animals. Visitors can ride the safari line train, feed
and pet tame animals and browse in the Lions Lair gift shop.
The zoo is especially beautiful during the Christmas season
when it is decorated with thousands of lights and the children
can meet Santa.
Located
in Pensacola, a short drive from Navarre is the National
Museum of Naval Aviation featuring the IMAX Theater.
Over 130 beautifully restored aircraft represent Navy, Marine
Corps and Coast Guard aviation.
Whether you are looking for quite solitude or exciting
adventures, Navarre Beach and the surrounding
area will live up to your expectations.
